Name that bug
Okay, it's time for everyone's favorite game: Name that bug
It showed up today on our compost pile, and stuck around a little while for a photo-op before it burrowed back down into the pile. Does anyone out there know what the heck it is? We think it's some sort of ground beetle (good maybe?) but I'm still having problems finding a good picture to identify it with.

This is what it looks like to me.

My guess from the large laws is a stag beetle:

Well I had another e-mail suggestion that it was a dung beetle, but the entomologist at the USU extension e-mailed me back saying it's a stag beetle (Family Lucanidae), which apparently shows up in decaying wood (the compost pile is mostly wood chips). No word yet if it's good or bad though.
So DING, DING, DING, Evenspor wins! sorry I have no prizes for you though.
